Daniel Solomon - DC Vote's 2008 Champion of Democracy

A native Washingtonian, Daniel Solomon is a tenacious supporter of countless causes throughout the city. Daniel devotes himself to increasing the quality of life for DC's residents. Supporting after-school programs and outdoor activities for DC kids... Educating young people about teen pregnancy prevention... Providing services for homeless, low-income and at-risk individuals and families... Strengthening Jewish social justice organizations... The full list of Daniel's passions would easily fill this Web page. One of DC Vote's most dedicated allies, Daniel's numerous and exceptional contributions to the welfare of the District of Columbia and its most vulnerable communities are immeasurable.

An unflagging supporter of many causes throughout the city, Daniel is a trustee of the Naomi and Nehemiah Cohen Foundation. He is also a trustee of The Jewish Funds For Justice, and has been active in raising over $1 million for its Tzedec program, which works to pool Jewish investments for low-income communities in the DC area. Daniel is a trustee of the United Jewish Endowment Fund and is a board member of the University of the District of Columbia School of Law Foundation.

Daniel is a former political appointee at the U.S. Department of Labor, where he focused on international labor rights and child labor violations.

DC Appleseed recognized him with their 2007 Community Service Award for his contribution to the DC voting rights movement. In 2004, the Washington DC Jewish Community Center honored Daniel with its Lee Rubenstein Outstanding Leadership Award for his work to enrich the quality of life in the community and for the benefit of humanity. He was also honored to receive the 2001 Sidney Shapiro Tzedakah Award from the Jewish Funders Network.

Daniel holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California at Berkeley and a J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law. He lives in Northwest Washington, DC, wife his wife Jane and their two sons.
